“Unleashing the Power of Empathy: A Journey Through Self-Discovery by Gabriela Marie Milton”

“Hello everyone. I am thrilled to be a guest of New York Glamour Magazine again. First, I would like to share several things about me, and then talk about my new publishing house Literary Revelations, and our fabulous publication Hidden in Childhood: A Poetry Anthology.

I write under the pen name Gabriela Marie Milton.  I was born in Europe, and I lived in different European countries before I came to the US. I call America home, and I call my formative years spent in Europe ‘My European period.’ In an interview I gave to Spillwords Press NYC, I described myself best when I said that I love to write and read. For me writing and reading are burning desires. I have read plenty of books: from the writings of the titans coming from the Latin American space to the writings of their counterparts coming from the Slavic space. Yes, I am an American, but I am also a child of Europe. I have been fascinated, mesmerized, frightened, brought to tears, left speechless by the greatest writers of Europe. I still am. Later, I discovered America’s greatest: Sylvia Plath, Toni Morrison, Faulkner, Hemingway, Miller, Poe. Yet, in my darkest moments – like those rare moments in which I cannot write – only the writings of Lawrence Durrell bring my muse back.

I am an author in my own right. I am an Amazon bestselling and award-winning poet, and an internationally published author. I am the author of the #1 best-selling poetry collection Woman: Splendor and Sorrow: | Love Poems and Poetic Prose (2021), and the author of Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings (2020). Both books were published by Vita Brevis Press.  I edited and curated the #1 bestselling anthology Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women (EIF, 2022) and, my newest edited book is Hidden in Childhood: A Poetry Anthology. The book just came out and it was published by my publishing House Literary Revelations. These are the two big things I want to talk about: the new publishing house and this stunning anthology Hidden in Childhood.

First, some info about Literary Revelations. You can find us on our website literaryrevelations.com https://literaryrevelations.com/  Literary Revelations publishes most poetry genres: epic, lyric, narrative, or prose poetry.  We expect work that dazzles the intellect and delights the soul; work that makes feelings blossom into symphonies of love, beauty, and sorrow. Interpret the silence. Find the place where love was born, and tears are entombed. Be the voice of prophets. Be the soft whisper of Sakura.

Dream, create, suggest. Avoid cliches. Avoid the banal and the explicit, even if both have become trendy.  Remember “To define is to kill. To suggest is to create.” (Stéphane Mallarmé).

We also publish fiction such as mystery, romance, fantasy, and other types. We do not publish erotica.

We remind those writers who want to publish with us that a novel is not the mere act of outlining one thing after another. We do not look for tables of contents. We want our authors to love, and to suffer, with their characters.  We want them to remember the importance of the landscape, and to look over their shoulder where the unknown lies.  We want them to remember what Jorge Luis Borges said: “When writers die they become books, which is, after all, not too bad an incarnation.”

Hidden in Childhood: A Poetry Anthology is our first publication. It comprises over 150 authors and more than 270 poems. It is available on Amazon and for almost 5 days was the #1 Amazon Hot New Release in Poetry Anthologies. As the editor, curator, and publisher of this book, I am honored and humbled that so many poets entrusted me with their work.  The beauty and the power of the poems included in Hidden in Childhood brought me to tears. The poems of the contributors are stunners. As I wrote in the foreword of the book, if you open the pages of this poetry collection, you will be mesmerized by the talent of the contributors, and by the range of stylistic approaches they use to recreate the world of childhood. The pages you will read memorialize the beauty and magic of childhood – remembrance of love and fairytales – as well as its ugliness – abuses, poverty – that unfortunately still exist in our world.

Hidden in Childhood (as I note in the Amazon description) is a monumental anthology that comes to the readers from authors featured on NPR, BBC, and the New York Times, and from emerging poets. Every poem sends shivers down your spine. Childhood’s joy and trauma expressed with unbelievable talent and sincerity.  Childhood spaces magnified by the human memory, populated by good and bad, by trips to hell and heaven, in an almost Hieronymus Bosch type of atmosphere. Over 150 voices call you to read this book. Read it. You will learn that childhood never goes away. You will be reminded of the beauty of the seraphim and the need to protect children from any form of abuse. 150 voices knock on your door. Open the door. A chorus of childhoods will tell you that our children need love.

It’s an important anthology. I hope your readers will enjoy it.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about myself, and Hidden in Childhood: A Poetry Anthology, the first publication of Literary Revelations LLC.
