Exclusive Interview with Catherine Habib – Film distributor/journalist
After studying literature and communication, Catherine Habib works for THE CRITIC WEEKS during two 2 years, than she moves to the French distributor PREMIUM FILMS which the one she created VODMANIA in 2006.
Vodmania was first a French video on demand platform who was dedicated exclusively to shorts films for a long period, and then to features with the help of COMMUNICATION ONLY. With years, VODMANIA becomes a movie label of French cinema.
Catherine Habib is also movie journalist, she animated a lots of interviews which were broadcasted on TV for many years. As critic, she regularly participates to festivals for conferences and juries. And is now looking to be part of a television show dedicated to cinema, if her distributor activities gives her time to do it.
NY Glam: What are you currently working on? Tell us a little bit more about your company/organization.
I work for Communication Only which operates the Vodmania cinema label , a label created in 2006. Furthermore, I am also a movie journalist , I was broadcasted on TV for years on the portal of one of the French internet provider.
My main job is to do shorts and features acquisitions, to sell them to international channels and to broadcast them on VOD.
NY Glam: What projects have been your favorites that you have been a part of and why?
My favorites projects have been the creation of companies specialized in cinema. I began in 1999 with Premium Films (distribution), then by Vodmania in 2006 (Video on demand) and then in 2014 with Communication Only for cinema professionals. It was important for me to build !
NY Glam: What three social issues are most important to you and why?
Children protection, because there are so much things to do about . Egality Women and men, because in my work I coud noticed that men and women were not considered the same way according to their gender. Ecology and environment, because this is a way to be for me to pay attention to what is precious.
NY Glam: What was the most significant change you brought about in a project / organization?
Ha ha great, I am not the best person to answer this question, perhaps I hope so a casual and creative way of data processing.
NY Glam: What is the biggest lesson you have learned in your career?
Time is going, what is today could be different tomorrow . As said HERACLITE, you never bathe twice in the same river.
NY Glam: What are the most important values and ethics of cinema journalist?
Truth of course! But also rigor and creativity.
NY Glam: How can one improve their leadership skills?
Reading, thinking, and enjoy being challenged.
NY Glam: What is your advice for those who would like to reach higher in their career?
Taking time, be patient, what is important it is not so much the destination but your path 😉
NY Glam: What are you an advocate of? What are your life passions?
I am an advocate of nothing, everyone is free to live as he wishes , there are things rather which are important for me as family, friends…My biggest passion is dancing and listening music, I could listen music for hours and hours.
