Blake Lively starred in romantic-comedies New York, I Love You (2008) and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009). Lively starred opposite Ben Affleck in crime thriller The Town (2010) and appeared with Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern (2011). She was in the ensemble cast of Savages (2012) and garnered acclaim for portraying the titular character in romantic fantasy The Age of Adaline (2015). She appeared in survivor horror film The Shallows (2016) and psychological drama All I See Is You (2016). Lively was 20 years old when she joined the hit series, which ran from 2007 to 2012. Despite the indelible effect “Gossip Girl” had on her image, she felt that the character of Serena didn’t align with her personal values. “It’s a weird thing when people feel like they know you really well, and they don’t. I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend,” said Lively, enumerating Serena’s many morally questionable choices throughout the series.
Prior to being cast in “Gossip Girl,” Lively planned to quit acting and initially turned down the role of Serena so she could attend college.
The last major role Blake starred in was The Rhythm Section which premiered in January 2020. She’s been cemented in stone as being one of the most iconic Hollywood starlets of all time. It feels like Blake hasn’t necessarily “been around” much since she didn’t star in any projects throughout 2021, but she’s still been doing her thing.
