“The Kosovo war and the genocide against ethnic Albanians devastated the lives of millions, leaving many people displaced, with no homes and no family to return to. For many children such tragic events would completely turn their whole world upside down and test their faith and will beyond more than they could ever imagine. While life for the rest of the world carried on as usual, the lives of many Kosovar families and young children were forever changed. Time stood still as they faced terror, hunger, and pain, suffering in silence. I will never forget my childhood and all the other children who lived through such a terrible war. I produced the film “Proof” to remember all the children of Kosovo and other children around the world who were victims of horrible wars, left with no parents, no homes and no future. This is the story of hardship almost beyond belief that has shaped our lives forever. I want them to know that there is still hope. I am proof of that.” -says the director of “Proof”, Mrika Krasniqi.
Synopsis: A grandfather and his granddaughter remain locked in their basement during the bombing. Grandpa is an art professor and does not want to leave his books behind. Also, he cannot leave because his granddaughter is wheelchair bound, and must wait for her parents. After one week in the basement, Grandpa hears on the radio that they had killed the parents of the girl. Not willing to tell his granddaughter, he continues to stay in the basement and tell her “your mom and dad will be coming soon”.
