Aries

Mars, your ruling planet, has a lot to tackle early on in 2020, from broadening cultural horizons (Sagittarius, January 3-February 16) to achieving professional goals (Capricorn, February 16-March 30) and expanding social networks (Aquarius, March 30-May 13). Good thing your energy and enthusiasm are practically unlimited!

But practically is the key word here: With Jupiter in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces (February 20, July 27, and October 12), it’s easy to overestimate how much you can handle… and underestimate your need for R&R.

Overdoing it could catch up with you by the time Mars enters Pisces and Jupiter and Neptune station retrograde (May 12, May 14, and June 23). Restore the balance by allowing yourself plenty of downtime and mental health days.

Mars comes home to your sign on June 27 and stays until early 2021. You’ll be eager to push forward with a new approach—but not so fast, Aries! With Mars retrograde September 9-November 13, you’ll want to conserve your energy.

Career concerns may press on your mind, but try not to use up all your bandwidth on them: Two new moons (June 20 solar eclipse, July 20) and full moons (January 10 lunar eclipse, December 29) in Cancer put family on the front burner this year.

Specifically, with Venus in Gemini April 3-August 7 (retrograde May 12-June 24) and the north node in that sign beginning May 5, relationships with siblings, cousins, and other relatives are a major focus, offering opportunities for personal growth.

Communication is key, and with Mercury in Cancer May 28-August 4 (retrograde June 17-July 12) there’s likely to be some tense family meetings or heart-to-heart talks. Practical concerns such as childcare, eldercare, and division of household duties carry an extra emotional charge. Watch out for hypersensitivity or nostalgia for the past that could block honest, constructive dialogues from taking place.

After all, Aries, whatever else you’ve got going on, family comes first.

Taurus

Since Uranus entered your sign back in 2018, you’ve been feeling like a brand-new person. But in many ways, you’re still living the same old life. How much longer will you have to wait for real change to happen?

With your ruler Venus in assertive Aries from February 7-March 4, it’s time to take matters into your own hands! Just be aware of any potential risks, and be sure it’s really your heart’s desire before going all in. Venus comes home to your sign on March 4 and conjoins Uranus there on the eighth, reminding you that loving yourself means being yourself—no matter what anyone else thinks.

Venus spends an unusually long time in Gemini in this year (April 3-August 7), and her retrograde in that sign (May 13-June 24) gives you an opportunity to reflect on what you love, value, and desire most in life. Don’t be surprised if some of those things have changed!

Face it, Taurus, you’re evolving. And this year, the effects are rippling out into all areas of your life. It’s exciting, but can also be disorienting—for you and everyone else.

Both inner and outer conflicts arise in the second half of the year, especially while Mars is retrograde in Aries (September 9-November 13). With Mercury in the opposite sign of Libra, it’s tempting to bottle up anger and stress to keep the peace. But you’re much better off channeling them into positive action and creative compromise.

This energy is likely to play out in family dynamics—especially with your siblings, cousins, or in-laws. With two eclipses in Cancer (lunar January 10, solar June 20) and two major conjunctions in Capricorn (Saturn/Pluto January 12; Jupiter/Pluto April 4, June 29, and November 12), these relationships are up for a massive overhaul in 2020.

Family ties may be forever, Taurus, but they shouldn’t tie you down. As you continue to evolve, your family will be challenged to evolve too—whether they like it or not!

Gemini

From April 3-August 7, the love goddess herself is helping you cultivate greater self-love and reconnect with the things that bring beauty, pleasure, and value to your life. Know that whatever your heart desires, it desires you too.

But here’s the catch: With Venus retrograde from May 12-June 24, you can get so stuck in your head that it’s unclear what your heart really wants. Avoid the temptation to overthink or talk yourself into things—when it’s right, you’ll just know.

After all, with your ruler Mercury in Cancer for an extended time this year (May 28-August 4, retrograde June 17-July 12), you’re taking a deeper dive into the emotional, intuitive side of your nature and becoming more comfortable expressing your feelings to others.

You may feel pressed to choose between intellect and intuition—but Gemini, who says you can’t have both? Beginning May 5, the north node in your sign encourages you to lean into this duality and have some fun with it. Approach your own inner dialogue with the same curiosity and open-mindedness you’d bring to any other encounter.

That famous curiosity remains insatiable as ever, and this year there’s no shortage of interesting opportunities for you to explore both personally and professionally. Still, it’s important to maintain a healthy balance of work, play, and rest.

As Mercury spends the fall going back and forth between your houses of play (Libra) and work (Scorpio), the need for rest may be easy to overlook. But overlapping Mercury and Mars retrogrades (October 13-November 3 and September 9-November 13, respectively) will remind you when it’s time to put the brakes on.

The important thing is to stay focused on conserving your energies, not scattering them. This could mean changing some plans, dropping some projects, or simply saying “no” more often in order to prioritize your health and wellbeing. With a lunar eclipse in your sign on November 30, you’re supported in cutting out distractions and releasing all that no longer serves you.

Cancer

More than any other sign, you’re under Luna’s spell. And this year, Cancer, she’s serving up a double dose of moon magic. With two new moons in your sign—a solar eclipse at 1° on June 20 and a new moon at 29° on July 20—you get two chances to start your personal “new year” off on the right foot. (Lucky for you, since Mercury will be retrograde in your sign the first time around!)

Mercury spends extra time in your sign this year (May 28-August 4, retrograde June 18-July 12), taking your emotional intelligence to a whole other level. You’re even more likely than usual to pick up on other people’s subtle, nonverbal cues—just don’t rule out the possibility that you’re projecting your own stuff onto them.

With two full moons in your sign this year (including a lunar eclipse on January 10), they’re just as likely to reflect things back to you—like the parts of your identity you’ve outgrown but remain sentimentally attached to. A tough-love Saturn/Pluto conjunction in your opposite sign of Capricorn, two days after the January eclipse, challenges you to cut the cord. By letting go of old stories, you’re freeing yourself to write a new one.

Wellness is one area where you’re eager to make a fresh start. And with Mars in Sagittarius at the beginning of the year (January 3-February 16), you’re ready to hit the ground running! This is a great time to tackle ambitious fitness goals, as long as you’re realistic about how sustainable these lifestyle changes are. Once the south node moves into Sagittarius on May 5, old habits of indulgence may be harder to resist. Choose more adventurous, outdoorsy activities like hiking or soul-satisfying ones like yoga—whatever keeps you coming back for more!

Mental health and spirituality are also areas of focus for you this year, with the north node in Gemini starting May 5 and Venus spending four months in that sign (April 3-August 7, retrograde May 12-June 24). If you don’t have a meditation practice already, Cancer, this might be the year to start one as you cultivate a richer inner life and a deeper, more loving relationship with yourself.

Leo

Mars kicks off 2020 in free-spirited Sagittarius (January 3-February 16), then spends the second half of the year (starting June 27) in impulsive Aries. You’re eager to get out there, explore uncharted territory, and discover new horizons. Ready or not, world, here you come!

Still, other influences suggest it may be wiser to slow your roll. The south node enters Sagittarius on May 5, making it harder to know when to act and easier to overdo it. If you keep burning the candle at both ends, eventually you could burn yourself out.

Let the June 5 lunar eclipse in Sag be your last hurrah before reining yourself in. A solar eclipse in Cancer follows on June 20, inviting you to turn inward and reconnect with your emotions… and maybe even your higher self. It may not be quite the adventure you had in mind, Leo, but this journey of self-discovery promises to be very exciting!

Capping off the eclipse season is a Capricorn lunar eclipse on July 4, which brings health and wellness issues into sharper focus. With two of the year’s most powerful conjunctions also happening in this disciplined sign—your sixth house of health—it’s time to get serious about taking care of yourself, body, mind, and spirit.

Saturn/Pluto (January 12) hits you with a reality check at the beginning of the year. Like it or not, you’re going to have to make some lifestyle changes if you want to keep going strong through 2020 and beyond. But it might take Jupiter/Pluto (April 4, June 29, and November 12) to light enough of a fire under you to make it happen.

Transformation is an intense process, Leo. But you’ve got more than enough energy, enthusiasm, and willpower to see it through—and nothing, not even a Mars retrograde (September 9-November 13) can get in your way!

Virgo

Ultimately, Virgo, they’re teaching you to take responsibility for your own happiness by structuring your life in a way that supports greater creativity, spontaneity, and joy. This means letting go of any fears and judgments keeping you from living life to the fullest. It also means saying “yes” more often to your inner child. (If you have children of your own, they’ll thank you for this too!)

Fortunately, with Uranus in Taurus all year, you’ll find it easier to change your habits… and even your mind. And through three retrograde cycles, your ruling planet Mercury offers hints about what’s up for review:

The first (February 16-March 9), in Pisces and Aquarius, finds you seeing everyone you know in a different light. From lovers to friends to family members to coworkers, you may wonder just how well you really know these familiar faces.

By the second retrograde in Cancer (June 18-July 12), this leads you to question where your loyalties lie. A shared history, culture, or family ties may bring you together—but is that enough to build a future on?

And with the third Mercury retrograde in Scorpio and Libra (October 13-November 3), it’s time to reexamine your own thoughts and beliefs. No judgment, Virgo—just make sure you’re applying the same impeccable standards to yourself that you do to others!

Your health is another area where you’re encouraged to keep an open mind this year, with Saturn spending time in experimental Aquarius (your sixth house). New health and wellness trends are likely to spark your interest, but take some time to do your homework before incorporating them into your daily routine.

Saturn visits Aquarius from March 21-July 1 and reenters the sign on December 16. Jupiter follows close behind, meeting up with Saturn on December 21 in a long-anticipated Great Conjunction. As a new 20-year cycle begins, you’re feeling rejuvenated and ready to rock!

Libra

As January 10’s lunar eclipse in Cancer urges you to shed your protective shell and January 12’s Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn initiates an inner metamorphosis, it’s only natural to prefer the privacy of your own home. You’ll need a safe space in which to process your emotions—with Jupiter conjoining Pluto three times this year (April 4, June 29, and November 12), there’ll be a lot coming to the surface.

You tend to be on the more reserved side when it comes to expressing your feelings, and when you want to minimize drama, that’s just good sense. Still, with Jupiter and Pluto opening the floodgates, your true feelings are coming out… ready or not! The summer eclipse season, with lunar eclipses in Sagittarius on June 5 and Capricorn on July 4, is all about getting things off your chest—especially if they’re family-related.

If all this seems heavy, Libra, have no fear. Your ruling planet Venus balances the scales by spending extra time in easy, breezy Gemini (April 3-August 7, retrograde May 12-June 24). After starting the year in homebody mode, this transit draws you back out into the wider world. Plan a faraway trip, sample the sights and sounds of a different culture, or begin a new field of study—anything that captures your imagination and expands your sense of possibility.

These explorations could be just for fun… or they could get your life moving in a whole new direction. It may not be clear until after the Cancer solar eclipse on June 20, but one thing’s for sure: New avenues of self-expression and personal achievement are opening for you.

The “new you” begins to emerge as Mercury, the sun, and Venus transit your sign (September-November). You may get pushback from those who know and love the “old you,” especially November 9-19 when Venus opposes Mars in Aries and squares Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn in Capricorn. But don’t worry, Libra, they’ll learn to love it as much as you do!

Scorpio

With your ancient ruler Mars beginning the year in philosophical Sagittarius (January 3-February 16), you’re motivated not only to answer these questions, but to act on them. After all, with “I desire” as your sign’s motto, you’re not messing around!

Still, you’re wise enough to know that true happiness won’t be found “out there.” It’s an inside job—and as your ruling planet Pluto digs even deeper into Capricorn this year, his long-awaited conjunctions with Jupiter and Saturn empower you to do the work.

The first, with Saturn on January 12, teaches you to take more responsibility for your thoughts and words, being mindful of their power to create or destroy. As this conjunction follows just two days after a lunar eclipse in Cancer, unconscious beliefs picked up from your family or culture may also be coming up for review. If these no longer ring true for you, Scorpio, remember: You’re free to exchange them for others that do.

The other big Capricorn conjunction, between Jupiter and Pluto, repeats three times throughout the year. The second, on June 29, falls right in the middle of eclipse season (solar in Cancer June 20, lunar in Capricorn July 4) and Mercury retrograde in Cancer. It’s time to harness the power of positive thinking—not by denying or repressing unpleasant emotions, but by consciously choosing to see them in a different light.

This may sound a little “woo-woo” to your skeptical side. But Scorpio, there’s no reason why logic and reason can’t coexist with a more mystical perspective. Throughout the year, a sextile between Jupiter in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces (exact February 20, July 27, October 12) helps to unlock intuitive, creative solutions to problems your intellect alone has failed to crack.

One of these may be how to relate to family members, or anyone else you feel “stuck with” in life. You may never fully understand each other, but chances are, you’ve got a lot to teach each other about life and love—especially around Jupiter and Saturn’s Great Conjunction in Aquarius on December 21.

Sagittarius

With Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter all converging in your sign at the start of 2020, you’re definitely in the hot seat. How do you stand it? Ironically, not by “going hard,” but by softening, opening, and accepting. Your opposite sign of Cancer shows you how.

Saturn joins Pluto in your sign on January 12, just two days after a Cancer lunar eclipse. You’re faced with the reality that, strong and competent as you are, there’s only so much you can handle or accomplish on your own. How might your life be transformed if you finally accepted your own limitations and let someone else help?

Generous Jupiter also aligns with Pluto three times this year, and their second meeting on June 29 falls between a solar eclipse in Cancer (June 20) and a lunar eclipse in your sign (July 4). As you continue your personal metamorphosis, you’re able to find meaning in the difficulties and trust that whatever’s happening is for the highest good.

Through it all, take good care of yourself so body, mind, and spirit can support and sustain you. A sextile between Jupiter in your sign and Neptune in Pisces (February 20, July 27, and October 12) helps you channel your impressive self-discipline into treating yourself—and others—with greater compassion.

This will serve you well in the later part of the year, when Mars in Aries squares Jupiter (August 4, October 18), Pluto (August 13, October 9, December 23), and Saturn (August 24, September 29) in your sign. Things at home can get a little tense, with conflicts arising over domestic duties, caregiving responsibilities, or even holiday plans. Take a breath and remind yourself: You’re all in this together.

After all, Capricorn, with Saturn dividing his time this year between your sign and Aquarius (your house of self-worth and values), it’s time to focus on what really matters. Saturn’s Great Conjunction with Jupiter in Aquarius on December 21 begins a new 20-year cycle, so you’ll want to start it off on the right foot!

Aquarius

That’s because, as your fourth house of home, family, and emotions, Taurus is your ultimate comfort zone—and comfort isn’t really Uranus’ thing. As this transit continues through 2020 and beyond, life can seem pretty chaotic at times. But in the midst of it all, a calm and quiet inner voice assures you that you can and will weather any storm.

Early in the year, planets in your sign square off with Uranus (Mercury on January 18, the sun on January 22, and Mars on April 7). Your self-image as a rebel or radical innovator clashes with a growing desire for more stability and security in your life. But what if the most “punk-rock” thing you can do this year is going back to basics and adopt a simpler lifestyle?

After all, Aquarius, self-care can be a revolutionary act. And from June through August, as personal planets in Cancer sextile Uranus, you have permission to make it a priority—not just for you, but for all the people you care about. The more grounded and centered you are, the more present you can be for them through all life’s ups and downs.

With Capricorn energy dominating the astrological landscape for most of 2020—including a Saturn/Pluto conjunction on January 12 and three Jupiter/Pluto conjunctions in April, June, and November—structure and boundaries are the name of the game. But have no fear: It’s not about following anyone else’s rules! It’s about consciously choosing to stay within the limits that foster greater health, safety, wellbeing, and happiness for you.

The truth is, Aquarius, having limits makes it easier—not harder—to express your individuality. And as Saturn visits your sign from March 21-July 1, you’re challenged to step up your self-discipline. With a new 20-year cycle beginning at Jupiter and Saturn’s Great Conjunction in your sign (December 21), the choices you make this year will likely have long-term consequences.

Pisces

With boundary-blurring Neptune as your ruling planet—and transiting your sign since way back in 2011—it’s not always easy to tell. But if it feels like you’ve lost your mojo, 2020 is time to take it back!

As a water sign, you need some kind of “container” to give your life shape. And with Jupiter in Capricorn sextile Neptune (February 20, July 27, and October 12), you’ll have opportunities to find one through participation in groups. Whether you’re brought together by politics, faith, or some other common interest, you’re encouraged to get out there and find your tribe.

True, you’ve already got a family—and with Venus in Gemini (your fourth house) from April 3-August 7, you’ll be enjoying lots of quality time with them. Still, Pisces, the more time you spend with them, the easier it seems to lose touch with yourself. A square between Venus and Neptune (May 3, May 20, and July 27) challenges you to loosen the family ties a little and explore who you are outside the family dynamic.

Fortunately, Mars in your sign (May 12-June 27) gives you the confidence and courage to put yourself out there. You’re gaining a clearer sense of who you are—and just as importantly, who you aren’t. Boundary issues could resurface around the Mars/Neptune conjunction on June 13, but remember: If something feels “off” to you, you have every right to say no. And don’t be afraid to own that “no”—it’ll empower you to say a more decisive “yes” to what you do want!

Later in the year, the sun, Mercury, and Venus in Scorpio take turns trining Neptune (November 9, November 23, and December 5). You’re supported in going deep and getting real with yourself and others about your beliefs, aspirations, and the ways in which you’re feeling called to evolve and expand.

After all, Pisces, being an empath—feeling other people’s feelings—is a beautiful part of who you are. But there’s so much more to you than that.
