{"id":9435,"date":"2021-06-12T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-12T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nyglamour.net\/?p=9435"},"modified":"2026-02-03T04:05:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T04:05:25","slug":"world-day-against-child-labour-june-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyglamour.net\/?p=9435","title":{"rendered":"World Day Against Child Labour \/ June 12"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2021 as the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/en\/A\/RES\/73\/327\" target=\"_blank\">International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour&nbsp;<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNGA acknowledged the importance of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/dyn\/normlex\/en\/f?p=NORMLEXPUB:12100:0::NO::P12100_ILO_CODE:C138\">ILO\u2019s Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No. 138)&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/dyn\/normlex\/en\/f?p=NORMLEXPUB:12100:::NO:12100:P12100_ILO_CODE:C182:NO\">Convention on the Worst Forms of Child Labour, 1999 (No. 182)&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 which is close to universal ratification by the ILO\u2019s 187 member States \u2013 as well as the Convention on the Rights of the Child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also recognized the importance of \u201crevitalized global partnerships to ensure the implementation of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/global\/topics\/sdg-2030\/lang--en\/index.htm\">2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development&nbsp;<\/a>, including the implementation of the goals and targets related to the elimination of child labour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Argentina took a lead role in advocating for this global commitment, as a follow up to the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/childlabour2017.org\/en\">IV Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour&nbsp;<\/a>, which took place in Buenos Aires in November 2017. Seventy-eight countries co-sponsored the resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope that this will be one more step to redouble our efforts and our progress to advance, day by day, towards a world in which no child is subjected to child labour or exploitation and a world where decent work for all will be a reality,\u201d said Martin Garcia Morit\u00e1n, Argentina\u2019s representative to the UN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ILO has been working for the abolition of child labour throughout its 100 year-history, and one of the first Conventions it adopted was on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/dyn\/normlex\/en\/f?p=NORMLEXPUB:12100:::NO:12100:P12100_ILO_CODE:C005:NO\">Minimum Age in Industry (No. 5, 1919)&nbsp;<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization is a partner in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliance87.org\/\">Alliance 8.7&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;and serves as the secretariat of this global partnership for eradicating forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe struggle against child labour has gained extraordinary momentum over the past two decades,\u201d said Beate Andrees, Chief of the ILO\u2019s Fundamentals Principles and Rights at Work Branch. \u201cYet, 152 million children across the world are still in child labour.
