I was born in ex-USSR, Kirghizistan.\nCentral Asia, many people don\u2019t have no idea of where it is on a map. It makes\nme smile. Indeed, when I look back in time, I think of that great journey of\nmine. A little girl from Bishkek, immigrated to Israel in the \u201890, then to\nBelgium and finally moved to France. This little girl lived the Gulf War, and\nmany other tough things, she too became tough. In Israel she decided to become\nan actress. And she never gave up. This little girl grew up, learned several\nlanguages, studied acting with great directors and teachers, and worked hard.\nActing is her passion. Theatre, cinema, acting again! Then came the writing and\nthe theatre staging, and finally the film making\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, I live in Paris, with my\nhusband and my two wonderful kids. Without forgetting my four-legged friend,\nIktam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NY Glam:<\/strong> What are\nyou currently working on? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Unable to live without the theatre, I\u2019m working on a new contemporary theatre play, preparing a\nnew role for a feature, writing my new film and developing a documentary\nfeature I\u2019ve been working for a while. The project tells the creation of a\nconcert, conducted by my father, Ilya Mashkevich, through the story of my\nimmigration journey. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What made you take this role? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My encounter with\nVictoria Yakubova, the director of Olma Djon, was the trigger. Vica contacted\nme, we\u2019ve met, we realized we had many things in commun in our journeys. It was\namazing. And there are no chances. We both were born in Central Asia,\nimmigrated to Israel then to Europe…I\u2019ve played in Sarah\u2019s Key (by Gilles\nPaquet-Brenner) and Victoria\u2019s husband Herv\u00e9 Schneid was the editor of the\nmovie. Vica and I, we had many people we knew in commun, but we never met. And\nOlma Djon was the luck! I loved Vica\u2019s universe, her previous work, the\nscript…And I was really happy to take this role. I\u2019m very grateful to her and\nto the Universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What journey does your character go on in the\ncourse of the monologues? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My character doesn\u2019t\nspeak. And that was very exciting and challenging for me as an actress. All the\njourney of the character, her emotions, her inner monologues, had to be shown\nthrough the eyes, the body…the acting. I should rather become the character\nthan to play it. Vica helped me a lot with the character\u2019s journey, we\u2019ve\nrehearsed before the filming, we\u2019ve spoke a lot, and during the filming she was\ncompletely 100% with the actors. It\u2019s very important for me, to be guided by\nthe director. Searching, moving forward, being in the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Tell us a little bit more about this film,\nwhat is it about, who else are you working with, and who is the director,\nproducer, writer? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n For me the film is about\nlove. And Family. About loving our inner child. It\u2019s about healing. Going back\nin our mother\u2019s womb and then relive. For me, there\u2019s a sacred form of\n\u201cfamily\u201d, union and love. Like the Trinity. Bolot, Sara and Sholpan unite at\nthe end of the movie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I used to work with\nJordan Beswick, a wonderful director and writer. We\u2019ve done 2 theatre plays\ntogether. One of them is an original one woman piece \u201cOur Lady of Perpetual\nDonuts\u2019\u2019, written and directed by Jordan. The play is based on a true story of\nEdna, who went through terrible things in her life and eventually survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I love working with\nJordan and this piece has a strong message. It\u2019s important for me to be able to\nexpress my ideas, my thoughts and the causes I defend, through acting and\nprojects I do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What is the most challenging role you have\nplayed and why? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The role of Sara, in\nOlma Djon. The role is very strong, very demanding. Because she doesn\u2019t speak.\nShe feels a lot. She\u2019s going through a \ndifficult journey in her life, to\nfinally get out and be stronger than before. She has to find (again) her\nfemininity, her motherhood, and to be herself. Going back to her interior, her\nroots, the source. To finally unite with her husband and her daughter. I was\npregnant during the filming and that was a challenge too. But I love the\nchallenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> And the most fun one? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A role in a film where\nmy character is totally awkward, in her behaviour and things she says. At the\nsame time very natural, funny and smiling. A kind of a Cameron Diaz character:)<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Describe your biggest accomplishment to date?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My children!<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What other hobbies do you have? Have you ever\nconsidered branching out into directing or screenwriting?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I love sports. Tennis,\nhorse riding, swimming… I love water. I love dancing but it\u2019s not a hobby, it\nmakes part of my work in acting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n And as I\u2019ve already\nsaid before, I have always written, creating, imagining, it was a need, but\nthen the branching out into directing and specific screenwriting became\nobvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Where have you played a lead role? What was\nthe character about? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve played several\nlead roles in theatre and in movies, but in one of them the character is a\nwoman fighting for her life, her child and her necessities. This woman is\ndiving in loneliness, guilt and the necessity of making a very difficult choice.\nAnd at the same time finding a little bit of peace in her loneliness with the\nnature and with her faithful companion. She\u2019s torn but at the end a hope\nremains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> If you weren\u2019t acting what would\nyou be doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Working with children.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What’s\nyour goal for this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Going through the corona crisis and\nglobal madness of the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Start the filming of my new movie.\nFinishing the development of my projects, keep working on myself. Taking care\nof my family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What is your advice for aspiring actors? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Work, dream, never\ngive up. Take the best you can from the teachers you have. Read, learn,\nrehearse… Work hard! Work with different people.
