NY Glam:<\/strong> Tell us\na little about yourself, growing up and your passions. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My name is Charley Koontz and I grew\nup in the San Francisco Bay Area doing plays and skits in high school before I\nattended Loyola Marymount University where I earned a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in\nTheater Arts in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What are\nyou currently working on? <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Coming up I am going to be on the\nAmazon Prime series The Boys for it\u2019s second season premiering in mid-2020. It\nwas an amazing experience to go to Toronto to shoot with an incredible crew.\nTruly a highlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What made you take this role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I went to school with\nour director and star Abby Pierce and I was grateful when she called me about\ndoing Eat Your Heart Out. I think the script that she and Julia Lederer wrote\nis warm, funny and heartbreaking. Any opportunity to work with Abby, who I consider\na great artist, I always jump at the chance. It was an easy decision to decide\nto take this role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What journey does your character go on in the\ncourse of the monologues? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In the movie Douglas\nfinally has to go on a journey of acceptance and closure for the end of the\nrelationship he had with Abby\u2019s character Wallace. He has tried to hide form\nthe pain of his heartbreak going so far as to literally hide the pieces of her\nheart that remind him of Wallace. They go through a difficult tour of their\npast relationship together, but I think he the end they find some peace with\neach other and the pain they have been through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Tell us a little bit more about this film,\nwhat is it about, who else are you working with, and who is the director, producer,\nwriter? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We shot the film in\nthe summer in Chicago with an amazing cast and crew. Graham Beckel plays our\nnarrator and he is unbelievable. Truly the glue that holds the whole film\ntogether. Our director Abby Pierce put together an amazing team including Kyle\nLeland, our producer, and Jason Chiu, our cinematographer. With these smaller\nprojects the crew is critical in making the look and feel of the movie more\nthan the sum of its parts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What is the most challenging role you have\nplayed and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n CSI: Cyber\ntechno-jargon will always win this one, hands down. But playing my character,\nKrumitz, on that show was a joy every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> And the most fun one? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A long time ago I did\na horror movie called The Haunting of Cellblock 11 set in an abandoned prison\nin Missouri. The REAL abandoned Missouri State Penitentiary! It was spooky and\nfun and I made some lifelong friends on the cast and crew. I always look back\nfondly on that movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Describe your biggest accomplishment to date?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Being in Eat Your\nHeart Out, of course!<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What other hobbies do you have? Have you ever\nconsidered branching out into directing or screenwriting?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I love to read books\nand study films. I think anyone in this industry that tells you they DON\u2019T have\na screenplay lying around somewhere is a liar. And I\u2019m no different!<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> Where have you played a lead role? What was\nthe character about? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n You should consider\nall the roles you play as the lead role in their particular story, I think. But\nbeing a main cast member on CSI-Cyber and getting to play around in that\nfranchise solving cyber crimes was a pretty exciting time in my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> If you weren\u2019t acting what would\nyou be doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Journalism\nmaybe? I\u2019m really interested in reporting and how newspapers work. I think that\nworld is fascinating and so important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What’s\nyour goal for this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Finish reading Infinite Jest, but\nthat\u2019s my goal every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NY Glam:<\/strong> What is your advice for aspiring actors? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Keep grinding. At the\nbeginning of your career it is important to view the scope of your journey in\ndecades. It might not come right away, or it might come quickly but not last\nforever. No moment lasts too long in this industry, so if you can stay focused on\ndoing the work, improving and finding honesty inside yourself for your\nperformance then sooner or later something interesting will shake loose.
