He joined his family\u2019s olive oil business, the Olive Farm, in 1999, and also ran their Portland-based commercial real estate development business, 300 Partners, for five years before retiring to pursue his number one passion \u2013 composing music! Inheriting a love of music from his parents, Kurt taught himself how to play piano at 12-years-old, and started writing songs with lyrics in high school. He also started listening to Celtic Music from Scotland and Ireland. This growing exposure to Celtic Music ended up having a profound influence on Kurt\u2019s compositions and led to the inspiration for writing the melody and lyrics for his ode to Scotland; the original song, \u201cHighland Home.\u201d Kurt is a Member of both Clan Scott Scotland and the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), and a Patron of Scottish Heritage USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>What is your music background? Do you write your own\nsongs?&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I played cello in the Portland Youth\nPhilharmonic, wrote a composition that was played by my grade school\u2019s\norchestra, sang in the high school madrigal group, and played Kurt Von Trapp in\nthe Sound of Music.&nbsp; I have been writing\nmy own songs since the age of 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>How important is image? &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Image is important.&nbsp;\nBut, it is not as important as the music and how people respond to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>What image do you think your music conveys?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My music is very melodic in nature, soothing, and\ntimeless.&nbsp; Most of all, I try to write\nsongs that are hummable, singable, and memorable.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>Describe your style. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My style is relaxed, approachable, comfortable, and\nsomewhat traditional.&nbsp; I am not into\nflash or pretentiousness.&nbsp; My music\nshowcases my style and my soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>What are you currently working on? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am currently working on getting the Highland Home music\nvideo \/ short film into the film festival circuit.&nbsp; The film has already won some awards and has\nbeen selected to screen at several prestigious film festivals in the USA, the\nUK, and in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY Glam: What\ninspired this project and who did you work with? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My original song, Highland Home, was inspired during a\ntrip to Scotland.&nbsp; I wrote the song when\nI got home.&nbsp; Last year, I collaborated\nwith renowned keyboardist \/ producer, Tim Gorman, to arrange the song.&nbsp; After the Highland Home song was recorded, a\ngroup of us thought that it would be wonderful to create a music video. Dan\nSchaefer wrote the storyboards and directed the film, while Brent Rogers and\nZach Stevens produced it.&nbsp; Uncage the\nSoul did the cinematography.&nbsp; I also got\na chance to work with the two phenomenal lead actors, Karen Johnson-Miller and\nGrant Gosch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>How do you define success?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My goal for my song, Highland Home, has always been for\nit to be played \/ recorded by a Celtic band \/ artist or for the song to be picked-up\nby a TV series or movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>Can you share with us any of your memorable\nperformances?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My most memorable performance took place\nin Brodick Castle in Scotland.&nbsp; One of\nthe guides invited me to play the piano in the castle\u2019s Drawing Room.&nbsp; I played two of my own Celtic-inspired\nsongs.&nbsp; After I had finished my\n\u201cmini-concert\u201d, applause rang through the castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>Which instruments do you play if any?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I play piano and rhythm guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>What other hobbies do you have? Are there any causes that you support?\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am studying Spanish and Italian, and am conversant in\nFrench.&nbsp; I am also an avid walker, hiker,\nand traveler. I was a History Major in college, with an emphasis on British\nHistory, so I love to read anything that has to do with the British Isles.&nbsp; I support the Oregon Humane Society, Habitat\nfor Humanity, Special Olympics, The Friends of the Columbia Gorge, and Oregon\nPublic Broadcasting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>Any plans for upcoming tours\/performances? &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Future plans include going to film festivals to see\nscreening of the Highland Home film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam: <\/strong><strong>What are your long-term career goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\nwould like to write music \/ songs for Celtic singers \/ bands, TV, and\nfilms.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>Can you tell us about any albums\/songs you have released?\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I haven\u2019t released any albums or\nsongs.&nbsp; But, my\nsong, Highland Home, can be heard in the music video \/ short film of the same\nname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NY\nGlam:<\/strong> <strong>What\u2019s next?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two things:&nbsp; First,\nI would like to have a choral arrangement of Highland Home sung by a Scottish\nChoir.&nbsp; Secondly, I plan to make a music\nvideo of my song \u201cThe Moon Followed Me to Falmouth\u201d and have it produced on\nlocation in Falmouth, Cornwall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exclusive interview with Kurt Rosenberg &#8211; Composer Kurt Rosenberg , is an entrepreneur, an avid world-traveler, a prolific composer, and self-taught pianist.
