Erin Beute is an\naward-winning American actor, composer and screenwriter.  She has become \u201cMom\u201d to tens of thousands as\nElena\u2019s mother, Miranda Gilbert<\/em>, on\nThe Vampire Diaries.  She can also be\nseen on recent and upcoming T.V. episodes of SHOTS FIRED, OUTCAST, FINDING\nCARTER, POWERS, DROP DEAD DIVA and more. She starred in the 2019 feature film MIND THE GAP, and most recently, FREEDOM ON\nOUR MIND, PATSY AND LORETTA FOREVER, THE HAUNTING OF POTTERSFIELD, PENELOPE\nPRATT and THE BEAUTIFULLY UGLY DOOR and the short film BIRD\u2019S EYE, which she\nwrote and won BEST ACTRESS at the Rendezvous International Film Festival.  She has shared the small and large screen\nwith actors like Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Sharon Gless (Burn Notice), Will\nPatton (Shots Fired), J.R. Bourne (Arrow), and Larry The Cable Guy (Tooth Fairy\n2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erin graduated Magna Cum Laude with a conservatory degree in Music and Theatre. Her L.A. studies include Margie Haber, Jack Plotnick, Alchemy Acting and The Groundlings.\u00a0 When she\u2019s not on set, she loves teaching acting classes at Skyra Studios, coaching actors one-on-one and hosting the primetime line-up for the CW18 network. NY Glam: What projects are you currently working on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m working on rewrites for the feature-length version of my\nshort film, BIRD\u2019S EYE.  As my vision\nexpands for this project, so then, so does the story\u2019s depth and breadth.  And so I rewrite\u2026again.  J <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve also recently submitted an option agreement for story\nrights for a new screenplay.  I\u2019m so\nexcited about this true story\u2014looking forward to bringing it to life.  It\u2019s an honor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And literally just yesterday in the shower, I had an idea for\na one-woman show\u2014a comedy.  Good heavens,\nI have no idea when this one will get written. \nBut I know better than to let a compelling idea go to waste.  It\u2019ll get done!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: What makes a film great for you? Are there certain qualities that make a film better for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layers of character unfolding in plot\u2014through characters that\nwe are compelled to care<\/em> about. \nThat\u2019s so important\u2014that character reveals plot and not the other way\naround.  Also relatability\u2014being able to\nsee ourselves in a character, and to own his story as our own.  The character\u2019s journey may not reflect our\nlife story at all, but somehow we know<\/em> that person we see on the\nscreen.  That\u2019s absolutely miraculous.\nIt\u2019s relationship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like stories that don\u2019t hide raw truth in its stark, ugly\nbeauty.  But I also love to see\npossibility and hope emerge from these dark places.  I happen to believe that\u2019s true in this\nuniverse, and I hope that in some way my work reflects that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also believe in working with the best that I can find.\u00a0 I know what my gifts are and I also know what they are not.\u00a0 <\/em>So assembling a team committed to excellence as DP, 1st<\/sup> AD, Script-supervisor, AC etc. deeply matters to me.\u00a0 I am humbled by that team.\u00a0 Every time their brilliance shines in what they do, I thank God this is a team sport.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t do it alone.\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: As a screenwriter, what is the most important aspect of building a character? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That they tell the truth\u2014at whatever\npoint of the story we find him or her. \nIn order for that to happen, I can\u2019t protect them.  I have to release them to find their way\nthrough their world (#parent)\u2014even when that means some really dumb decisions\nfor them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 In the case of DR. MCALLISTER in BIRD\u2019S EYE,\nit\u2019s to let her feel her way through her flaws.  In fact, the more I invite her to explore\nthose places before the \u201cAHA!\u201d moment, the more it gives depth and significance\nto her ultimate discovery.  Her victory\nhas real meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: Top 3 favorite projects that you have been involved in?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve loved every minute of BIRD\u2019S EYE.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to produce the feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda Gilbert<\/em> on The Vampire Diaries.\u00a0 There was so much sadness for Elena, I loved being a voice of love and wisdom for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tooth Fairy 2. <\/em>\u00a0Larry taught me so much about authenticity and grounded-ness, even after his phenomenal success.\u00a0 \u201cKnow who you are.\u00a0 Keep being that.\u00a0 Treat people good.\u201d\u00a0 I never forgot it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: Do you express\u00a0yourself\u00a0creatively in any other ways?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love to teach.\u00a0 I\u2019ve noticed that my process as a human quickly distills through my teaching.\u00a0 Yes, I teach acting and technique and methods, but the hidden ingredient in the secret sauce is, I hope, real life-learned wisdom for real life.\u00a0\u00a0 But sometimes it just comes out as a ridiculous story, and we laugh, and that\u2019s cool, too. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also write music.\u00a0 It\u2019s restorative (and possibly therapy) for me.\u00a0 I love to dive into a completely different medium and play around\u2026to make art that lasts only for the second that it resonates in the air.\u00a0 Then if I can capture it onto paper, I have a souvenir.\u00a0 And in the case of our film project, it became the film score! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: What advice would you give to someone who wants to have a career in filmmaking?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t say no. \nReally.  Have an attitude of\nopenness.  I\u2019ve found that what\u2019s truly\nmeant for us will find us, and it will usually be in a way we didn\u2019t\nexpect.   When an opportunity comes up,\nand you don\u2019t perceive how this will \u201cfit the master plan,\u201d SAY YES!  Just like in creating character, the\nswitchbacks and surprises have gifts for us, too.  Don\u2019t say no. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, bluntly:  Slug\nyour pride in the gut and take those gigs as an assistant\u2019s assistant, gopher,\nsweeper-upper, etc. There\u2019s more hidden gifts here.  From your stealth point of anonymity, watch\nand study and learn.  Be the weirdo that\nworks hard and commits fully.  Learn to\nlove the work now, and that love for story will sustain you when there\u2019s much\nbigger fish to fry.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam: What can we expect from you in 2020?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIRD\u2019S EYE has had an incredible festival run with 7 wins and\n11 nominations in the last year, alone. \nWe will play a few more festivals (the next at LOVE MY SHORTS FF in\nSanford, FL) but our primary goal is investor partnership and production of the\nfeature in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll also continue to host our evening line-up on The CW,\nteach classes, team up on more short films, and write the\n\u201ckeep-your-fingers-crossed\u201d project.  Oh,\nand I will continue to raise my children. \nThat will be good, too.  J\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
