Michael Volpe, a native New Yorker, is a former national reporter for several Washington, DC news outlets, and a former federal government official who served under the Carter, Reagan, Bush and Obama administrations.\u00a0Andrew M. Volpe\u00a0is a video producer and editor whose\u00a0documentary\u00a0film and screenplay, \u201cThe Free Agent Fan\u201d\u00a0has won a number of film festival awards, including Best Documentary and Audience Choice, and has been optioned by Hollywood.\u00a0In 2020\/21, Andrew won 4 video awards for his pet adoption Public Service Announcement, Cat Scratch Fever: The Cat Video (https:\/\/youtu.be\/tG-4Xw5aHXk<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> What projects are you currently working on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Native New Yorker Michael Volpe answers) \u201cMy son, Andrew M Volpe, and I have completed a new screenplay entitled <\/strong>The Dedicated Physician<\/em><\/strong>. A female neonatal surgeon overcomes a painful miscarriage and a divorce from her unfaithful wife to stop a greedy board of directors from closing the only hospital in an inner city neighborhood. In a surprise twist, this surgeon\u2019s life is eventually saved by an individual she delivered years earlier.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Film maker and screenwriter Andrew M Volpe adds this answer) \u201cI am also working on an animated cartoon for next Christmas where various Nutcrackers debate how important each is to the meaning of that holiday. It\u2019s sort of <\/strong>Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer<\/em><\/strong> meets <\/strong>The Real World<\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/strong>What makes a film great for you? Are there certain qualities that make a film better for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Film maker and screenwriter Andrew M Volpe answers) \u201c<\/strong>When we write a screenplay and it eventually becomes a feature length film our goal is to fulfill a 3 act structure with an interesting scope which packs a message that any audience will enjoy. I went into film making and screenwriting <\/strong>because it was very important for<\/strong> me to make something that connects with people. If you are lucky your work is an artistic expressi<\/strong>on that might<\/strong>change someone\u2019s life just a little bit.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/strong>As a screenwriter, what is the most important aspect of building a character? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Michael Volpe answers) \u201cA good character is the backbone of any story \u2013 if the audience is uninterested in the protagonist then your story has nothing going for it. Your character must also be flawed as we all are, so audiences can see themselves in the character.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> How important is for you being a finalist at International Screenwriting Competition \u2013ISC?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Andrew M Volpe answers) \u201cIt is an honor to be a finalist in the prestigious ISC Screenwriting Competition. Just to be mentioned in the same breath as the other writers in this illustrious group is great validation of the work my Dad and I have accomplished. If we were lucky enough to win it would the pinnacle of our writing careers.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Free Agent Fan<\/em><\/strong>, a<\/strong>n<\/strong> <\/strong>awarded <\/strong>baseball dramedy <\/strong>screenplay <\/strong>and film <\/strong>optioned by Hollywood.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cat Scratch Fever: The Cat Video<\/em><\/strong>, an awarded PSA about the benefits of cat adoption.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NYC La Famiglia e Tutto: NYC Family is Everything<\/em>, a finalist in the ISC Screenplay Competition\u00a0which is a coming of age story set in 1970 Greenwich Village.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/strong>Do you express yourself creatively in any other ways?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Michael Volpe answers) \u201cEvery year, I volunteer as a Secret Santa for the US Postal Service where I try to fulfill the Christmas wishes of needy children who write to the North Pole courtesy of that mail service. It does my heart good to surprise the children and their families with gifts and allows me <\/strong>to pay it forward, so to speak, and use my writing skills to craft hearth warming messages.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Andrew M Volpe answers) \u201cI try to mentor young people<\/strong> who are striving<\/strong> to break into the business and explain to them that a) it is hard work, b) expect rejection and c<\/strong>) never stop learning and creating<\/strong> for if you are talented<\/strong>,<\/strong> you will succeed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/strong>What advice would you give to someone who wants to have a career in filmmaking?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Andrew M Volpe answers) \u201cI read an article recently that did a better job than I in explaining necessary advice. It included explore the wide variety of roles in the industry from the art department to sound, location, and even accounting so you have a deep understanding of what goes into a movie. Also build a portfolio of work, make connections, and enter contests such as the ISC competitions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NY Glam<\/strong>:<\/strong> Wha<\/strong>t can we expect from you in this actual year<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Michael Volpe answers) \u201cBesides the Doctor and Family screenplays we finished, Andrew and I have begun work on a WW II script as well as an <\/strong>Animal House<\/em><\/strong> meets <\/strong>Big <\/em><\/strong>Chill<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>script<\/strong> about a 1970s college fraternity and members who grow old together.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
