Julia Roberts and Sean Penn star in this modern take on Watergate which, similar to\u00a0<em>The First Lady,\u00a0<\/em>puts its focus on untold stories and forgotten characters. Roberts plays a socialite who is the first person to publicly sound the alarm about the president\u2019s involvement in Watergate who happens to be married to Nixon\u2019s attorney general (Penn). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the popular Slate podcast\u00a0<em>Slow Burn,\u00a0<\/em>the cast also boasts\u00a0<em>GLOW<\/em>\u2019s Betty Gilpin \u2014 who has two shows on this list \u2014 as well as Dan Stevens and Shea Wigham.\u00a0<em>Gaslit\u00a0<\/em>is one of two shows coming next year focusing on Watergate, joining HBO\u2019s\u00a0<em>The White House Plumbers\u00a0<\/em>with Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as the duo who planned the Watergate burglary that brought down Nixon. While\u00a0<em>Plumbers\u00a0<\/em>boasts an equally impressive cast and creator (<em>Veep\u2019<\/em>s David Mandel), it\u2019s interesting to see a Watergate story told through a female lens.
