Discover the Natural Beauty of New Jersey through Hiking at the Henry Hudson Trail

If you’re looking for a scenic hike with a variety of natural wonders to explore, look no further than the Henry Hudson Trail in New Jersey. Located in Monmouth County, this 22-mile trail offers hikers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with stunning views of woodlands, wetlands, and wildlife.

The Henry Hudson Trail is a multi-use path, which means it is open to hikers, joggers, bikers, and horseback riders. However, don’t let that discourage you from hiking it. With its wide paths and well-marked trails, there’s plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the natural surroundings.

The trail runs from Freehold to Aberdeen, passing through six towns along the way, including Marlboro, Matawan, and Keyport. While the entire trail is 22 miles, you can choose to hike smaller sections, depending on your experience and fitness level.

One popular starting point for the trail is the Aberdeen-Matawan train station, where you’ll find a parking lot and easy access to the trailhead. From there, the trail leads you through a mix of woodlands and wetlands, with the occasional glimpse of a picturesque stream or pond.

The highlight of the trail, however, is the Atlantic Highlands section, which offers stunning views of the ocean and Sandy Hook Bay. The trail winds its way along the bay, with plenty of benches and picnic tables to stop and take in the view.

The trail also offers several historical landmarks to explore, including the Cedar Creek Bridge and the Tindall Road Bridge. Both of these bridges were constructed in the early 20th century and offer a unique glimpse into the area’s history.

If you’re an avid birder, you’ll be pleased to know that the Henry Hudson Trail is home to over 200 species of birds, including osprey, herons, and eagles. The trail also passes through the Hartshorne Woods Park, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and even the occasional coyote.

Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a peaceful stroll through nature, the Henry Hudson Trail has something to offer everyone. So pack a lunch, grab your hiking boots, and take a trip to Monmouth County to explore the natural beauty of the Henry Hudson Trail.
